All in all pretty dull slasher flick that doesn't go anywhere I'd definitely wouldn't recommend it to Slasher fans. The story line isn't completely rubbish but it's just way too dull to keep you interested, the only things that kept me interested was Melissa she was stunning and Dana Kimmel whose really sweet and cute in this movie. The acting is actually pretty good though and Melissa's character is easy to sympathize with, even though she's a complete slut.

The movie is nicely shot with quite nice photography and good directing but just as with many other slasher flicks from the 80s, the movie suffers from being too dark at times. After over an hour, only three murders have occurred and the story hasn't really developed in any possible way. Movie release dates/review for Sweet 16 1983, Horror, Thriller movie directed by Jim Sotos.Synopsis: Teenager Melissa moves into a small town filled with racial prejudice and bullying and each time she meets up with one of the boys in town, they end up murdered - but who is the killer Tagline: Why are all the boys dying to meet Melissa. When I started watching it I realized that "Sweet Sixteen" isn't a very good slasher, it's really dull and boring and just doesn't go anywhere. To be honest the real reason I wanted to watch this film is because Dana Kimmel of Friday The 13th pt 3 was in it which isn't a proper reason why to rush out and see a movie. Since Melissa is beautiful, every boy in town wants to hook up with her, but the few that manage to catch her interest mysteriously die. I like this and it's definitely worth watching if you're a fan of the good old 80's slashers.Plot = Melissa is a new girl in town, she's fifteen years old and her birthday is coming up in one week. The first couple of deaths are quite bloody but from then on there's not too much blood. There is some good suspense and music OK too. I thought Dana Kimmel star of "Friday The 13th Part 3" put in an amusing performance as the sheriffs daughter trying to solve the murders herself.

The film is quite stylish, has a good mystery and also a good cast for the type of film (Bo Hopkins,Patrick Macnee). Teenager Melissa moves into a small town filled with racial prejudice and bullying and each time she meets up with one of the boys in town, they end up murde. As people begin to get killed by an unseen maniac Melissa always happens to be the last person to see them alive, but who is the killer? Movie rating: 7.5 / 10 (11595) Directed by: Ken Loach. The story is about 15 year old Melissa the new girl in town who acts older than her years. Determined to have a normal family life once his mother gets out of prison, a Scottish teenager from a tough background sets out to raise the money for a home. The set up, characters and police investigation are far more detailed than usual and it's actually a pretty good slasher (but there's no college or summer camp setting here). "Sweet Sixteen" is something you would still definitely describe as a slasher but it has quite a different feel to many from the genre. Extras also include interviews with Bo Hopkins, Alisia Shirley and Jim Sotos. It's in widescreen and is region (0) Don Stroud appears as one of the local heavies.Ĭode Red's DVD features both the director's intended version of the film and the original theatrical release, with it's Nancy Drew style prologue.

Patric Macnee plays Mellisa's anthropologist father and Susan Strasberg the mother. How to watch on Roku Sweet Sixteen 1983 R Horror Thriller drama Murder and mayhem seem to surround the new girl (Aleisa Shirley) in town as her 16th birthday approaches. Bo Hopkins is the unusually sympathetic local sheriff. Her breasts, buttocks, and pubic area is shown from the side. They do not succeed and no nudity is shown. Even the seemingly very cheesy title song really adds to the off-kilter melancholia of the story. A female strips down to her panties and jumps into a lake, her breasts are exposed. The body count is low, but Jim Sotos ( director of the Forced Entry remake) imbues his film with an interesting, almost mystical, atmosphere. Sweet Sixteen is an odd mixture of slasher film, police procedural, lyricism and Southern Gothic-like dark family secrets.
